Bring the kids to the Childrens Art Festival

The 4th annual Children’s Art Festival will take place at the BC Children’s Arts and Literary Centre from February 17-18. Tickets are $10 to take part in a creativity class, the Imagination Stations and various performances or $5 for just the Imagination Stations and the performances.

The Children’s Arts Festival will consist of lots of interactive activities, art classes and workshops all led by professional artist instructors. There will be one performance each day; Flying not Falling will take place on the 17th and is a variety revue including jugglers, clowns and music and Tickle Me Pink will be performed on the 18th and is a comedy improv show.

The various Imagination Stations will include such things as hand drumming, face painting, balloon twisting and Art with Mr. Tony. There are 12 Creativity Classes that children can choose between: dance, circus, drama, hip hop, clay, puppet making, cartooning, filmmaking, guitar, glee, art mash up and acrylics on canvas. Every child should be able to find something they really want to learn.

With so many schools cutting back on arts education, events such as the Children’s Art Festival become more and more important. After all, what will Richmond printing companies do if there are no more artists to help design their products? It is important that art be taught to children. Even if they don’t go into the arts, arts education helps to mould their minds and make them more creative in whatever job they choose in the future.
