For those parents looking for something more creative than the typical day camp, North Vancouver’s Seymour Art Gallery will be offering a one-week program designed to inspire kids’ artistic side.
The program is run by local artist Sean Karemaker, who has worked in illustration, graphic design, comics and video game development, as well as teaching at various schools and institutions throughout the province. It is designed for children from the ages of 6 to 11.
The camp will begin with a visit to the gallery’s ‘Discovery’ exhibition featuring new and emerging artists. For the rest of the week, kids will get a chance to experiment and create with various materials and media, including stop-motion animation and collaborative drawing. Things will conclude with a miniature exhibition of the students’ work. Inspired kids might be eager to stop by an art supply or Print shop on the way home for further exploration.
The Seymour Gallery’s art camp will run on the mornings from July 29 to August 2. Established in 1985, the Seymour Art Gallery is a non-profit public gallery that focuses on local art, performance events and education. It boasts of welcoming more than 25, 000 annual visitors. In addition to the summer camp program, it also hosts school tours and workshops for all ages throughout the year.
