The Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra will be opening its season on the North Shore this November with a performance of works by some of history’s greatest composers.
The show’s programs will consist of two acts. The first will kick off the season with the overture to Mozart’s famed opera The Magic Flute, followed by Stravinsky’s seven-part Firebird Suite. The performance may also include dances to accompany the Firebird music. The second act will showcase Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with VAM Musical Director and conductor Ian Parker in the central role. Soloists are selected through a school competition. Tickets are available with discounts for seniors and students.
The VAM Symphony Orchestra aims to present the best up-and-coming classical musicians in the Vancouver area. Following this show, its season will include performances in North Vancouver, as well as Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre, including a holiday performance of music from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and two spring concerts featuring music from Tchaikovsky and Dvorak. Classical concerts like this are often promoted through tools such as poster printing and radio appearances, and often provide new interpretation on classic musical pieces.
The Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra’s performance of the Firebird Suite and other pieces will take place at the Kay Meek Arts Centre’s Grosvenor Theatre on the afternoon of November 5.
