The City of North Vancouver is looking to upgrade its green space with a pair of new shelters in public parks, and it is seeking citizen feedback on the matter.
The new structures are intended to provide relief from the weather, as well as a spot for events such as birthday parties and picnics. Two shelters will be installed, but the question is where they will go.
The city has narrowed down the candidate parks to four contenders – Haywood Park, home to the Mackay Creek hatchery fieldhouse; the eastern Loutet Park, known for its urban farm and Gerry’s Garden; Ray Perrault Park, previously known as Boulevard Park; and Victoria Park West, one of the oldest parks in the city. The four parks were selected based on their accessibility to washrooms, transit and available parking.
The decision will be made based on feedback from residents, including an online survey launched through the city’s Let’s Talk platform. Cities often seek feedback from citizens through digital Forms, in-person meetings and direct outreach methods like flyer printing. The shelters will be made of prefabricated metal, with simple designs for easy installation and maintenance. They will be available for booking for events once installed.
North Vancouver’s survey on park shelters will be available online until July 5. The city will issue a report later in the summer and install the structures in the winter of 2022.
