North Vancouver’s Presentation House Theatre will open the curtains on its 2023-24 season this October with two performances aimed at both family and adult audiences.
The first major show of the season will be Heavy + Light, an educational performance aimed at a young audience from ages three to seven. The story follows an adventurous duo that investigates the science of weight, as well as its poetic implications. Featuring real balloons, the performance is a co-production with theater wrede+. Youth-aimed theatre events such as this are popular family outings, often using colourful banner printing and other decorations to liven up the stage and introduce kids to a love of theatre.
The second performance, The Woman in Black, is aimed at a very different audience, and is a classic horror story just in time for Halloween. The play, written by Stephen Mallatratt and Susan Hill, concerns an aging lawyer who hires a young actor to re-enact what he believes to be a ghostly haunting form his youth. The production uses sound and other special effects to create a chilling atmosphere.
Presentation House will keep busy after these two productions with November’s STAND Festival, featuring work from immigrant and refugee artists, and December holiday events aimed at the family.
Heavy + Light will run from October 5 to 15, while The Woman in Black will be staged between October 17 and 31, both at Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver.
