This July will see the Philippine Days Summer Festival, a gathering of the province’s Filipino-Canadian community, make its return to North Vancouver.
The two-day festival will be celebrating its 14th edition, as well as the 125th anniversary of the Philippines’ independence. It will also be the return of the full festival after three years of limited events for public health reasons. It promises a “Barrio Fiesta” feeling with 75 different vendors, from food trucks to clothing and craft vendors. The weekend will also see a number of stage performances, including live music, cultural performances, and special events. Past editions have included performances from tribute bands and dance groups, as well as visits from Filipino celebrities such as actor Richard Gomez.
Philippine Days typically attracts upwards of 15,000 people, making it the largest such Filipino cultural event in British Columbia. The event promotes itself as open to people from all different cultures and walks of life. There are also a number of games, raffles, and activities aimed at families.
Approximately 5% of Metro Vancouver’s population is of Filipino heritage, making it a prime location for such an event. Cultural festivals such as this often use tools such as poster printing and social media to connect with local communities and interested visitors.
The 2023 Philippine Summer Days Festival will take place from July 8 to 9 at The Shipyards Event Grounds in North Vancouver.
