North Van festival to celebrate acrobatics
After a two-year absence, Vancouver Acro Fest will be back this January, gathering aficionados of the art of acrobatics.
The event is primarily a weekend of seminars and hands-on lessons at all levels of acrobatics, with various different disciplines and styles represented. There will also be live performances and panel discussions designed to showcase high-level skills, as well as how to build good technique.
“Acro yoga”, using acrobatics poses for health and fitness, is a popular trend and some of the weekend’s sessions will focus on it. Marketing for the event focuses on community togetherness among acrobatics lovers:
“In our time off, it became exceedingly clear just how valuable connection, touch, and community are to us. We are pouring tremendous love and intention into this year’s festival.”
The festival is designed to be beginner-friendly and open to people of all sizes. Announced teachers include Heidi Blais, Saraiah Papaya and Elliott Fudge. Participants are encouraged to wear stretchy clothing with layers for outdoor activities, as well as yoga mats and water bottles. Attendees will rotate between group activities and exercises. Festivals such as this typically bring together enthusiasts of unusual hobbies or interests, using online social media as well as tools such as poster printing to draw attention.
The Vancouver Acro Fest will take place between January 27 and 29, 2023 at The Pipe Shop in North Vancouver.
