North Van art show adds element of surprise

The Anonymous Art Show will be returning to North Vancouver this winter, offering hundreds of original artworks from local artists without names attached.

Now in its 19th year, the Anonymous Art Show aims to support the local art community. Over 350 local artists have been invited to create works on a small 8” x 8” canvas. The results are 739 original works, all of which will be hung together without names attached and sold for the same price of $100. Only once a piece of art is purchased will the work be taken down and the artist’s name revealed. The proceeds from the art will be split between the artist and the North Van Arts collective, which aims to provide broader support for local artists in North Vancouver, including education and hosting exhibitions and other events.

The organization describes its mission as:

“To enable emerging and professional artists in all disciplines, bridge cultures and build strong & healthy communities through the arts.”

The Anonymous Art Show currently has both an in-person exhibit an online display, with a digital preview launched ahead of the physical exhibition, and art available to be purchased online. Modern visual art includes everything from conventional painting to digital graphic design, and many works include multi-layered or three-dimensional elements.

The North Vancouver Autonomous Art Show runs from November 24 to December 17 at CityScape Community ArtSpace.
