A Langley activity that will make learning about invasive plant species a lot more fun will soon take place, and it will show how one such species can be used to prepare tasty treats.
The Himalayan blackberry was introduced to the area as a small fruit crop, but it escaped cultivation and became invasive. The upcoming Blackberry Bakeoff will educate attendees about invasive species, as well as celebrating the best blackberry recipes bakes, and everyone is encouraged to take part.
The bakeoff was first held in 2002, and it has grown over the years to become a much bigger event. Along with the hunt for the city’s best blackberry chef, the event will include a BBQ that will boast locally sourced food, and the opportunity to enjoy BBQ fare will be available for $5.00 each.
Local musicians will supply the entertainment, and crafting stations, garden tours and face painting are all on the agenda. More information about the contest rules can be obtained by calling 604-546-0344.
Community events can be a lot of fun, and a flyer printing company can help get the word out to as many local households as possible.
The 2025 Langley Blackberry Bakeoff will take place on Thursday, August 21st from 12pm to 3pm. The venue will be Langley Demonstration Garden, located at 21177 Fraser Highway.
