The 3rd annual Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County's Festival of Trees will take place from November 18-20. It is a free event and will take place at the Strathcona County Community Centre in Sherwood Park. The Festival of Trees allows businesses and individuals to sponsor and decorate a Christmas tree.
The festival also includes a silent auction where the trees, wreaths and centrepieces are sold. In addition, there will be Frosty's Craft Corner for the kids and an entertainment stage. The festival is mostly run by volunteers who do everything from setting up to manning the information booths, local flyer and brochure printers have no doubt been providing the centre with printed information about their programs and services at each Festival of Trees event.
This annual event has become a very popular one in Sherwood Park and it helps to celebrate the coming Christmas season in a fun way. Money raised from the Festival of Trees helps the continued operation of the Information and Volunteer Centre.
The Information and Volunteer Centre for Strathcona County helps many organizations in the area by finding them the perfect volunteers; the youth program matches eager young people up with companies needing volunteer help and adults can drop by the centre to find volunteer positions. The centre also is a distribution centre for community and area information; their community calendar lists all local events, the centre provides information about upcoming fundraisers and distributes much needed community information such as where to find day care or housing.
