An upcoming Edmonton activity will introduce attendees to some of the feathered friends that share the city’s landscape with its human residents.
Whitemud Park will be giving urban birds pride of place in an activity planned for July as part of Nature Alberta’s Family Nature Nights series. It is best suited to kids ages 4 to 12, and the whole family is welcome.
There will be representatives of the Royal Alberta Museum on hand to discuss urban birds, and Root for Trees will share details about how it is working to expand the city's tree canopy. Bird Dreams and Edmonton Nature Club will lead guided walks, and the function will go ahead rain or shine. There is a volunteer programme in place for the activity.
An event that introduces urban birds and other city wildlife gives the public a chance to pick up some skills such as data recording, measuring and statistics. Local Stationery printers that supply graphic design options can prepare checklists and observation recording sheets for such activities.
The 2026 Family Nature Nights: Urban Birds session will take place on Wednesday, July 22nd from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, with registration starting at 6:00 pm. Donations will be gratefully accepted, and the Nature Alberta website includes the most up-to-date information. The session will take place at the Alfred H. Savage Centre in Whitemud Park.
