Carol Knott recently began a branch of the organization in Edmonton. Knott is a teacher who works with special needs students. She was watching television and saw a piece about Soup Sisters.
Knott said:
“I thought, ‘I want to be a part of it.”’
Knott got in touch with Hapton to learn more about the organization. She then spoke too many of her friends about starting up the group in Edmonton.
The Edmonton group is in need of individuals or groups to volunteer and make a donation each month of a variety of five kinds of soup. These would be used to support the Edmonton WIN House. Sunterra chef Chuck Feist will oversee sessions of making soup. Volunteers will pay $50.00 per session to attend. At the initial kick-off, participants will pay $95. This will be used towards the cost of purchasing things like freezers at WIN House.
Volunteers will be busy slicing, chopping and simmering the soup. In addition, they will add a personal touch to individual soup containers, by writing messages on the labels. Soup will then be chilled overnight with delivery to WIN House the following day. Materials will be needed to explain the program. Print companies in Edmonton can be of assistance by making pamphlets, Brochures and Flyers promoting Soup Sisters.
