Martagon show planned for Edmonton area

Lilies come in many styles and Forms, and an Edmonton area show will focus on the Martagon group.

Grown from bulbs, lilies are found in many gardens, and the Alberta Regional Lily Society will soon be hosting its annual Martagon Show, which is the only function of its kind in North America. This will be its 26th year, and both those who have a lot of experience with these plants and those who are new to them may find it both interesting and helpful.

The activity will offer an opportunity to view some of the newest cultivars, and many of them have been developed by growers in Alberta. One of the perks of these plants is that they grow many flowers on one stem, and they are a popular choice for a cottage garden or border. Anyone who would like to enter the competition can have their entry judged, and awards will be presented.

Many of the attendees at the function will be making notes of the various varieties and their characteristics so they can get ready in advance for the group’s fall bulb sale. Distributing presale packages that include promotional Pens, Notebooks and other items can make it easier for participants in such an activity to jot down any points they wish to remember.

The Alberta Regional Lily Society Annual Martagon Show will run from June 30th to July 2nd. It is set to take place at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.
