Edmonton store provides boost for electric vehicles

An Edmonton furniture store that has a reputation for the very latest in design has now added the latest in green vehicle technology to be used by its customers.

Ikea recently announced that it welcomes all of its patrons to make use of its two new 60-amp charging stations where they can “juice up” their electrically powered vehicles at no cost. They will be made available on a first come first served basis. A firm that provides printing services can produce all the signage needed to help make it quick and easy for people to use the new stations.

The chargers were put in place by Sun Country Highway, who have partnered with the firm to install them in all of its 12 stores across Canada. The price tag for the ones in Edmonton is $30,000. The stations each include a parking spot for use while a vehicle is “plugged in’, and they are located next to the two spaces that were designated as being for low emission vehicles which were first made open to shoppers in 2007.

The unveiling of the new equipment was done by the store to help mark national Drive Electric Week, which encourages people to learn more about vehicles that run on electricity and why they can be a good choice for them when they are in the market for a new car.
