Yoga enthusiasts from Edmonton will now have a chance to engage in an activity they love, and when the session is over, possibly have a new furry friend
to adopt as their very own.
The Edmonton Humane Society has started a program entitled “Cats on Your Mats” that will offer beginner level classes in Hatha yoga while up to 10 felines who need good homes will also be in the room. This will allow people to interact with them and, hopefully, decide they have found the perfect companion.
The teacher for the class, Charlene Bergenstrom, remarked that so far, the classes have been going well and the cats have a chance to get used to having people around. She noted that some are shy and quiet, while others are far more social.
Karen Meurer, who spoke for the Humane Society, pointed out that both humans and cats benefit from the classes. The participants find it relaxing to have the felines around, while the cats get some extra opportunities to socialize with people. Flyers can help to promote new classes such as these to the public.
The class is held every Sunday on a drop in basis, though those who wish to take part need to register online. The cost is $20, and the funds raised go to the shelter. Anyone who would like to register or just find out more is invited to visit the Edmonton Humane Society website.
