New venue announced for Camrose Walk-A-Mile

Organizers of the Camrose Walk-A-Mile fundraiser recently decided on a new venue for the annual event.

Up until last year, the walk,

which raises money for the Camrose Women’s Shelter, was held in the arena during Camrose Kodiak’s games. The community has shown so much support for it that it became apparent that a new and larger venue was needed.

Ms. Nora-Lee Rear, the executive director for the women’s shelter, explained that the organization’s board reviewed last year’s high level of participation. They felt that, in order to keep pace with the numbers and allow the function to grow, it would need to be relocated.

A new site was chosen. It will now be held as part of the Big Valley Jamboree, and will be the parade that kicks off that event. This year, it is scheduled to happen on July 28th. During the walk, the men who take part will wear high heels and stroll down Main Street to take a stand against family violence and show their support for those who have been affected by it. Banners can be prepared for walkers to carry and also to decorate the route for events such as these. These can help to get their message out to the public and further raise awareness.
