Camrose celebration offers feathery fun

Named for a species of large swallows known for their “condo”-style nesting homes, purple martins are the focus of an event that will soon attract Camrose birders and other nature lovers.

The community's Camrose Purple Martin Festival will be a celebration of birds of all kinds, and it could be a fun way to introduce kids to environmental stewardship. There are individual and family tickets available, and it will run throughout the day.

Those who purchase a pass for the celebration will be able to participate in a session led by an expert speaker, and there will be both hummingbird and purple martin workshops on offer. A field trip to see purple martins in their natural homes is in the works, and there will be a bird house activity for the kids. Lunch can be purchased, and a surprise announcement is on the agenda too.

To add to the excitement of this celebration of Camrose’s feathered friends, there will be door prize draws. Event organizers often reach out to local companies seeking the donation of branded Corporate Gifts to use as door prize draw prizes, speaker honorariums and auction items. This provides a way for them to show their community spirit by giving back.

The Camrose Purple Martin Festival will offer high-flying fun on June 14th, from 9:30 am until 3:00 pm. The Stoney Creek Centre will host the event.
