Camrose to host plant swap and sale

Camrose green thumbs are invited to an event that will allow them to both improve their gardens and learn a technique to preserve the flowers they grow.

The Canada Northern Society will be hosting a Plant Sale and Swap and also a pressed flower workshop on the same day. The annual and perennials will either come from the gardens at the Camrose Heritage Railway Station or be donated by members of the community. Along with the plants, there will be a ‘white elephant” table where landscaping items and plant pots will be available for purchase, as will light refreshments.

Donations of either gently used gardening items or plants will be greatly appreciated.

The pressed flower workshop will be facilitated by Diana Nickel, who has more than 20 years of experience in horticulture, and has been the head of the Devonian Botanical Garden’s pressed flower division for the past five years. Those who participate will be able to select flowers from one of the station’s gardens and then learn how to press them so they can be used to make a framed picture and a card. Lamination can be used to further preserve the finished items so they will last for many years.

The cost for the session is $20 each, and there is no charge for the sale. Both will take place on May 28. Those who wish to participate are asked to register in advance.

Further details about both the plant sale and swap and the pressed flower workshop can be found on the Canada Northern Society’s website.
