An event is planned for Camrose that will bring together ornithologists and amateur birdwatchers alike.
The Camrose Purple Martin Festival will celebrate this well-known native species of swallow and provide those who attend with more information about them, and what things people can do to help protect purple martin numbers.
The daylong festival begins with an opportunity for those who are taking part to mingle and browse through displays set up by exhibitors form the local area. After that, there will be a variety of talks and other activities, including ones that will appeal to the kids. Information will be given on building nesting Boxes, how people can attract these birds to their properties, and what steps can be taken to ensure that their population numbers remain stable.
Included in the day is an opportunity to visit one of two different purple martin sites in the Camrose area. Digital copying can be used to produce relevant handouts and other informational materials that will be distributed during events such as this.
The event is being sponsored through the efforts of both the Camrose Wildlife and Stewardship Society and the City of Camrose. The registration fee for the Camrose Purple Martin Festival, which will take place on June 17, is $10 for those ages 13 and older, with the price for a family of four being $25.
