Camrose time capsule will capture this moment in time

A long-time resident of Camrose has assembled a wealth of contemporary artifacts that will be included with the new time capsule, scheduled for installation next month.

Janine Carroll spent most of her free time last year promoting the time capsule project. Over 400 businesses in the area gave Promotional Products, which may have included Flyers, luxury Business Cards and Postcards. These donations will account for the different types of businesses in the city, how much products cost and who owned and operated them.

Personal items were also accepted throughout the year, with a special ‘Light up the Night’ event on New Year’s Eve as a final push for donations. These artifacts document a true picture of Canada’s unique culture and the spirit of the people in Camrose. Among them are:

- Course catalogs from the University of Alberta-Augustana
- A collection of Gord Downie Stamps that were donated after the death of the singer last year
- A rare commemorative Canada 150th metal pin donated by the local member of parliament

Another precious addition to the time capsule will be a set of four memory Books. The Books circulated among Camrose residents while they celebrated Canada 150th events and festivals throughout the year.

City manager Malcolm Boyd and a respected Camrose pipefitting company are designing the time capsule. It is scheduled to be installed above ground at City Hall early next month.
