Opening a new business is an exciting idea, but it is worth remembering that employment law is often difficult to understand without talking to those who understand all of its codes and policies. To combat this potential obstacle, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce is presenting the seminar ‘Employment Law: What Every Business Needs to Know’ at the end of January.
The seminar will feature Brent Cooper and Shane King from McLeod Law who will try to help those attending to understand all the ins and outs of employment law. This will include an explanation of the Employment Standards code and the Human Rights Act. It will also touch on obligations that an employer has when terminating an employee, what is meant by wrongful dismissal, and reasons for which a person’s employment contract can legally be terminated. The seminar should be especially useful for those who are thinking of started a business, or who have recently set up their own company. Lunch will also be served.
There will no doubt be opportunities to do some networking over lunch. Some of the Calgary businesspersons in attendance are no doubt arranging their latest business card printing order in good time, so that they have a fresh batch of digital Business Cards to hand out in 2013.
‘Employment Law: What Every Business Needs to Know’ will take place at CREB on January 31 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for chamber members and $20 for non-members.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
