The Printing Graphics Industry Association of Alberta is based in Calgary. They are a non-profit association with the goal of promoting the printing and graphics industry in the province. The executive and board of directors for the association are all executives at Alberta printing companies.
Since its inception, the Printing Graphics Industry Association of Alberta (PGIA) has provided “leadership in the continuing development of imaged communication.” The PGIA has three membership levels: active, which includes those working in the graphics industry, this level costs from $231 to $3696 per year depending on the number of employees; associate or supplier, which includes those who supply products and services to the graphics industry, this level costs from $924 to $2310 per year depending on if they are a primary or secondary supplier; affiliate, which includes industries related to the graphic industry, this level costs $288.75 per year.
In addition to providing services for those working in the printing industry, the PGIA also now provides a mentor program at S.A.I.T. Polytechnic for students in the Graphic Arts Administration Program. Mentors from every area of the printing industry pledge to “aid students in their studies and provide information pertinent to today’s industry standards.” This program is a great help to those who plan to be future owners and employers of printing services companies.
Belonging to the PGIA gives those in the graphics services industry in Alberta several advantages including government lobbying by the association, buying groups, slow-pay groups and the Printing Technologies Training Program.
