A Calgary resident has opened her heart and home to unwanted parrots, but she needs some help from the public in her bid to give them a new home.

These intelligent and playful birds can make a wonderful lifelong companion, but it takes a lot of work, dedication and commitment. Sadly, sometimes it doesn’t work out, and when that happens, Birdline Parrot Rescue Canada, Ltd. Can be a lifeline.

Anna Lawrence runs the shelter, and currently her house is home to 24 parrots who have nowhere else to go.

They have ended up there for a variety of reasons. Some owners have become ill or passed away and can no longer care for their pet. Some of the birds behavioral issues and their owners call the Anna looking for help. If the problem can be corrected through training or other measures, then she encourages the owner to try and keep the bird, and it often works out well.

Another important part of what she does is to educate the public about the responsibilities and realities of parrot ownership. She encourages people to really give it a lot of thought before they bring one into their home.
