The De Beers diamond company has announced that it will be moving its Canadian headquarters from Toronto to Calgary.
According to this international enterprise, it made the decision because it wanted to be closer to the mines it uses in the Northwest Territories, and felt that the Calgary airport would be an ideal site for its new corporate offices.
Officials with the company were drawn to the city by its highly skilled workforce, the high rates of staff retention that it offers, the cheaper real estate costs that can be found in the area and its logistics.
Mary Moran, who is the president of Calgary Economic Development, noted that this is a welcome decision for city’s business community, as it will provide a morale boost to the area, which has been hit by the recent economic downturn.
Some of the people who have already been hired came from the natural gas and oil industries. A printer will be able to supply all of the printed products, including premium Business Cards, Letterheads, and business Forms that are needed when an enterprise such as this chooses to relocate.
De Beers is an international company, and last year it was able to produce approximately 1.8 million carats worth of diamonds in Canada. It is expected that this number will rise in the future, as its new mining operations come online in the north.
