Chinook Centre sets sales records

The Chinook Centre located on MacLeod Trail in Calgary has set a new record for sales volumes. Sales numbers of $1,108 per square foot were achieved in February, marking a six per cent increase over the previous year.

With approximately 250 different retailers in the centre, the mall shows no Signs of taking it easy, as the mall’s management continue to mix up the destination’s retail offerings.

Use of poster printing services spreads messages and announcements regarding new tenants coming to Chinook. Posters placed in windows and advertising spaces throughout the mall are continually letting shoppers know about new stores, like J. Crew, Topshop, and the much anticipated arrival of American retailer Target.

In addition to the new retailers, there are additional restaurants slated to open in the near future. State & Main and Double Zero are both expected to open later this year.

Chinook Centre’s property manager, Eve Renaud, attributes a great deal of the growth, as well as the new variety of stores opening, to the fact that those in Calgary are travelling abroad in larger numbers than ever. This travel exposes consumers to new and different retailers and when the shoppers return home, they hope to find the same stores available to them.

Retail analysts and specialists openly acknowledge that major, regional shopping destinations such as Chinook Centre are forced to constantly re-invent themselves. This is done not only through facility renovation, but also through varying the mix of stores they offer to the public. This constant reinvention is absolutely necessary in order to keep up with consumer expectations.
