A good grilled cheese is a comfort food for many, and an event has been planned or Calgary that will elevate this humble dish into something a lot more special, all while helping to make sure the city’s kids all have food on their tables.
Both amateur and professional chefs alike are invited to go head to head in the first ever Annual Great Grilled Cheese Cook Off. There is an assortment of prizes up for grabs, and the grand prizewinner will be crowned as The Big Cheese. The entries will feature Springbank Cheese Company cheese, which is a locally based company.
Those who come to the event will be invited to lend the panel of judges a helping hand by voting for their favorites. Those who attend will be able to enjoy up to ten sandwich samples, which they will be able to wash down with an ice-cold soda that was made by hand by The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company. Proceeds for the day will be donated to Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, which is an initiative that delivers pre-made healthy lunches to kids in Calgary schools. According to the organization, it feeds as many as 3,200 children each day, and for many, this will be their largest meal of they have each day.
