A recent event in Calgary showed just how much of a difference it can make when people pull together for a good cause.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, 24 teams of 15 people each took their turn in trying to pull a 200,000 pound Airbus A3000 aircraft 15 meters along the pavement at Calgary’s airport in the shortest amount of time possible.
Nexen IT came in first, with the VanHoutte Grinders team coming in second and Can Elson Drilling taking the third place spot.
All of this was to raise some much-needed funds for the city’s United Way.
In the past three years since the event started, over $300,000 has been raised, with the latest instalment raising $78,373. The money will be used by the United Way to help support different initiatives throughout the community.
The top fundraising team for the day was Perpetual Energy’s Perpetual Clydesdales, which raised $12,761.
The event was sponsored by AltaLink and Enmax. Besides the plane pull, there was plenty of things to keep the families who came out entertained. There was face painting, a petting zoo, and several local food trucks were on hand to help feed the hungry crowd.
An event like this is not only a great idea for a fundraiser; it can also provide an opportunity to help raise awareness about the important work that the not for profit group performs.
