Calgary residents pay it forward to kids facing a tough time

A group of Calgary residents who are already dealing with a tough lot in their own situations recently chose to help others also facing challenges in their own short lives.

Clients of the Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre have been collecting bottles and cans all year, and they were able to amass a grand total of $2,200. They decided they wanted to give a large portion of that money to the Children’s Wish Foundation. This organization provides children who are facing a life-threatening illness with the opportunity to enjoy some special times when they can “just be a kid”.

The donation was made during a special ceremony where the foundation was presented with the cheque for $1,000.
Wide format printing equipment is used to produce these over-sized Cheques that are usually seen at such an event.
Julie Hamilton, the mother of a child who has received help through the foundation’s efforts, remarked that to see those who are struggling in their own lives be willing to step forward to help kids like hers brought tears to her eyes and made her feel grateful.

Along with their gift to the Children’s Wish Foundation, residents of the Drop-In Centre also made a donation to the Alberta Children’s Hospital so they can purchase Christmas gifts for patients and other items that can make their lives better.
