Calgary course to teach basics of American Sign Language

A course is taking place in Calgary next year that will offer an introduction into American Sign Language (ASL).

Deaf Alberta is one of the province’s top providers of instruction in ASL, and along with an exploration of the language, the course will include details about deaf culture. It’s intended for anyone who has no previous experience in using ASL, and it will equip them with a basic knowledge of this communication tool.

Students in the Signing Naturally 101 course will learn ASL from the ground up, and common phrases and everyday language will be included. Those who wish to build on their learning can do so by registering for a more advanced class, and this series of classes is considered to be the first step in becoming an individual who can offer ASL interpretation services in Alberta.

A learning opportunity like this can be popular, and attracts both individuals who want to learn ASL as a hobby or so they can communicate with a friend, loved one or someone else in their life. Instructional materials can be prepared an event like this by a local poster printing company.

Calgary’s Deaf & Hear Alberta has set January 14th as the start date for this learning opportunity. It will continue on a weekly basis until March 17th.
