Businesses to smarten up with new series of speeches

The Energy Smart series, a new speaker series presented by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, we see its inaugural event take place at the start of November, entitled ‘The new global game changer’.

The featured speaker at the first event in the series will be Regina Hopper, CEO of the Natural Gas Alliance, which represents over 29 independent energy companies. There will also be a question-and-answer session moderated by Gianna Mannes of ENMAX. Those who attend will learn what role the consumer plays in energy policies and will find out ways to save energy and, as a result, money. There will also be discussion about business opportunities that will crop up to help consumers and businesses become more energy smart, as well as the realities of dealing with becoming more environmentally friendly.

Many businesses and industries in the Calgary area are already energy and environmentally smart. For example, printing companies follow industry standards that are above many accepted standards for other industries. Print companies are, for the most part, now using vegetable-based inks, sourcing their paper products from environmentally friendly companies, recycling their own waste papers, and disposing of dangerous chemical safely and cleanly. They also notice that the cost of following those standards is not necessarily passed on to the consumer.

The event will take place at The Westin hotel on November 1 from 7:15 am - 9:00 am, making it suitable to gear around the working day. Individual tickets are $45 for chamber members and $75 for non-members, while tables of eight are $360 for members and $600 for non-members.
