In the Chinese lunar calendar, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, and a special Calgary event hosted by Friends of Chinatown will celebrate this occasion.
The 2025 Big Fun Chinese New Year Dinner will feature 10 courses, as well as entertainment and other fun, and the proceeds will be passed along to the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre and Sculpture Park. Tickets for the festivities are $95.05 each.
The gathering will open with some pre-dinner entertainment provided by a Chinese music ensemble, and dinner will then be served. A Lion Dance performance will follow the meal, and demonstrations of martial arts are on the agenda as well. In keeping with a traditional Chinese banquet, the attendees will be seated at tables of 10, and the food will be served family style. Children age five and up are welcome, and everyone is asked to wear red and gold in honour of the arrival of a new year.

The Big Fun Chinese New Year celebration will be welcoming its guests on Friday, February 21st at Regency Palace, 328 Centre Street South Calgary. The fun will start at 6:00 pm, and will continue on until late into the night.
