Calgary prepares to welcome pollinators

Mother Nature can use a helping hand, and a Calgary activity will introduce local gardeners to a variety of pollinators that call the area home as well as how to make them feel welcome in their own garden.

Janet Melrose and Sheryl Normandeu will be sharing their knowledge with the attendees in The Prairie Gardeners Go-To for Pollinators workshop, and it has been planned so it provides a lot of information and hands-on learning in a small amount of time. Tickets to take part are $50.00, and they may be purchased in advance.

The session will explore how choosing native flowers can help attract various species of pollinators, including butterflies, bees, flies, beetles and also lesser known species, such as types of moths. The participants will learn how to blend different types of flowing plants into combinations that offer both pollen and nectar, and growing in containers will be on the agenda. Transplanting and plant care and culture tips will be provided, and everyone will get some hands-on experience by planting their own “mini garden” to take home.

This activity has been planned as more than just a class, and the charity of choice is the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation. Print shops can craft custom-bound publications to hand out during an educational event, and can supply budget-friendly options such as comb binding.

May 31st will see this opportunity to get growing on offer at 14111 Macleod Trail. It will open at 1:00 pm.
