Calgary library gets new name to go with new look

The Thornhill Branch of the Calgary Public Library has been renamed to honour one of its greatest supporters.

Judith Umbach, who is a long-time board member and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Calgary Library Foundation, included a large endowment for the institution in her will. To recognize this and all the other work she has undertaken throughout the years, the branch is being renamed after her as part of several upgrades.

The announcement about the renaming was made as part of the branch’s grand opening celebrations. Along with the new name, the building now has a colourful area for children, a more open floor plan, and a program for loaning out laptops to its patrons. A firm that provides Stationery printing services will be able to provide items such as custom printed Letterheads, Posters, promotional materials, labels, and any other items the library might need to showcase its new name.

According to a press release from the President and CEO of the Public Library Foundation, Umbach has been one of its best friends. She grew up in the city and spent much of her free time in the library. As an adult, she worked hard to make it one of the finest in the world so that it could be enjoyed by all Calgarians.
