While Calgary may be in its yearly deep winter freeze, those who enjoy the hobby of home horticulture will be able to enjoy a taste of the tropics thanks to an upcoming learning opportunity.
The Woodcreek Community Association will be hosting a series of five workshops that will be focused on the care and cultivation of houseplants. Both easy-to-care-for and more difficult varieties will be included in the Tropical Houseplants 101 sessions, and horticulturist John Ostrowdun will be sharing his knowledge and skills with the group.
The participants in the series will learn about a wide variety of plants, ranging from common species to succulents, carnivorous plants and epiphytes. Proper watering, fertilization and soil choice will all be discussed, and other considerations, such as lighting and ambient temperature, will be reviewed as well. The control of indoor plant pests will also be on the agenda.
This activity is open to anyone who is interested, and the registration fee starts at $150. A poster printing company may prove to be a useful partner when promoting educational events like this to the local community.
The Woodcreek Community Association will be hosting its indoor Tropical Houseplants 101 gardening course on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 pm to 8 pm from January 26th until February 23rd. It will be offered at 1991 Woodview Drive Southwest.
