Calgary chocolate celebrates win at national competition

A Calgary-based maker of chocolate confections recently did itself proud at a national level competition.

Cococo Chocolatiers entered some of its creations in a chocolate awards competition that was held in Toronto. Chocolate makers from all over the country took part in the contest, which was judged by a group of experts in the field including pastry chefs, journalists and culinary educators.

There were several categories that were available for entry. Participants could show off their skill in ganaches, bars, pralines, caramels and truffles. Cococo took the gold in the milk chocolate ganache truffle category with its Earl Grey truffle. Their oregano fusion tablet took silver in the flavored bar competition, while their salted peanut butter cup, mint truffle and Thai ginger sea salt caramel all took third place in their respective groupings. Their high overall standings in the competition earned them a chance to go to the International Chocolate Awards contest, which will make this the third year that they have been invited to take part. This is held as part of the UK’s Chocolate Week celebrations, with entries coming from all over the globe.
