Calagrians once again show generosity in hockey game toy toss

The Calgary Hitmen hockey team once again held its traditional toy toss, and this year’s contributions by their fans set an event record.

The team has been hosting the annual event for the past 20 years. The fans are invited to throw teddy bears and other stuffed toys out onto the ice, and they are then gathered up to be donated to local children in need. It has proven to be a big success, and this year was no exception.

This year, a grand total of 28,815 toys were tossed over the glass and onto the ice. This was a record setting number. There were so any that it took seven vans and trucks more than 37 minutes to gather them all up. It was such a success that it was an even better number than that gathered at the 19,289 sell-out game at the Calgary Saddledome.

The contributions from the public will be donated to 50 children’s charities from the local area, and the team wished to express their thanks to all those who took the time to think of others. Banners can be created by a printer that can be hung at the next game to thank the public for their incredible amount of support, and encourage them to do the same next year.

All told, more than 300,000 toys have been donated since the event was started 20 years ago.
