Wangara company wins marina upgrade contract

Wangara company Shorewater Marina has been awarded a $4.9m contract to build several new boat Pens at Two Rocks Marina and replace outdated facilities at Hillarys Boat Harbour.

Coastal infrastructure general manager Steve Jenkins said the agreement with the WA Transport Department will begin with staged demolition work in July ahead of a yearlong construction phase. Upgrading marine facilities in the northern suburbs may bring opportunities for flyer printing and brochure printing services to the local area, as well as Wangara.

Jenkins said the contract accounts for a large part of a proposed $6m upgrade of Two Rocks Marina, which will see the demolition of several already condemned structures, including the original refuelling jetty. This will be followed by the building of relocated boat Pens later in 2018. He added that the floating concrete jetties at Hillarys Boat Harbour are, after 30 years of operation, at the end of their working life and will be replaced with a floating pen system.

The WA Transport Department will work closely with boat owners at both Hillarys Boat Harbour and Two Rocks Marina in temporarily relocating their vessels during the staged works schedule into mid-2019.

Shorewater Marine is expected to sub-contract parts of the redevelopment. In what will be welcome news to local jobseekers, the move will create six new employment openings in the area.
