The call comes from the Wanneroo Urban Pantry, which provides food, toiletry and household cleaning items for those in need to help themselves.
The outlet was established by Chloe and Tim Nickoll with help from the council in 2019 and followed the `pay it forward' guidelines where people could donate what they are able to and recipients can take what is required to meet their needs.
Mr Nickoll said that unfortunately current demand is outstripping supply sparking the need to call for more donations of basic pantry items, tinned foods and meal kits that a quick and easy to prepare. He added:
“We are also finding that financial hardship is putting a lot of strain on pet owners to keep their loyal companions fed, so donations of pet food such as tinned dog and cat food or dry biscuits would be greatly appreciated.”
While flyer printing is often employed locally to spread awareness of not-for-profit operations such as this, the urban pantry's profile was also assisted by the arrival, with donation in hand, of Mayor Tracey Roberts recently.
The Mayor applauded the ongoing commitment of Chloe and Tim at the Urban Pantry which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is located in front of the Community Centre.
