Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said the sector was one of the fastest growing of Perth’s residential areas and the latest rezoning of more than 2,000 hectares to ‘Urban Deferred’ was a positive step in sustaining future population growth throughout the northern suburbs.
Saffioti said the amendment now paves the way to move ahead in developing a new District Structure Plan (DSP). According to the minister, the DSP will be expansive and will focus on both the package of land within the amendment and the whole locality.
The DSP will be guided by a community group which has recently been established. This will lead the way to the preparation of a draft DSP to be released early next year for public comment. Printing services are usually employed to provide easy-to-read Copies for interested members of the community who wish to engage further with what is planned for their local area.
Saffioti said the DSP will also concentrate on critical infrastructure including environmental considerations, wastewater and water provision, rail alignments and regional roads adding:
“Close to 450 submissions were received in relation to this amendment, indicating the high level of community interest. Finalisation of the amendment provides increased certainty for landowners and for future land developers to invest.”
