Residents of Wangara, Western Australia, were among a large group of people who recently attended a morning tea and plaque unveiling ceremony at Wanneroo Community Recreation Centre.
The event, advertised via media and flyer printing throughout the local suburbs, marked 40 years of the centre supporting the community.
City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts thanked stakeholders, community organisations and residents attending the event.
Mayor Roberts praised the strong involvement of sporting and community groups that have regularly used the centre’s facilities, claiming it had become an important community hub over the past four decades.
She said being able to commemorate its past, while also celebrating the service it continues to provide, is a dual celebration of importance.
Regulars to the centre have been able to take advantage of a host of activities, which includes gymnastics, volleyball, netball, badminton and basketball in the main sports hall, along with change rooms, plus activity and meeting rooms.
In total, the Community Recreation Centre facilities are also host to 37 community groups.
The 40th celebrations were voted a big success by organisers, who are now looking forward to the next 40 years.
Bookings to take advantage of the centre’s facilities can be made on a seasonal, annual or casual basis either online or by calling the Community Facilities Officer.
