Jack Petrie, 23, took out the double mini trampoline men’s event to become senior champion. Petrie is no stranger to elite competition, having previously represented Australia at three world championships.
Matthew Roberts, 16, took out the national title for under 17 level 9 rings. Having started gymnastics at age three, Petrie trains around 26 hours each week, with his eye on an Olympic title in the future.
Trampolinists Sally Bennie, 15, and Sienna Williams, 13, each won the national title for their age group after taking up the sport six years ago. Bennie came to the sport from gymnastics, and has her sights focused on world events, including the Olympics in the future.
Chloe Gillespie, 15, won her first national gymnastics title after switching into the sport from cheerleading three years ago. Her gold medal was for the level 7 open tumbling event, an achievement that she said felt like a payoff for her hard work. She said she enjoys the competition and the sport, saying:
“I enjoy the adrenaline rush, the feeling after getting new skills and the friendships we make as well.”
