The awards were held last month to showcase best practices and excellence in initiatives and projects introduced to assist growth areas to develop across Australia. They provided an opportunity to showcase innovations that are being enjoyed by people in Wangara, Yanchep and across the city.
They included the Mary Lindsay Homestead revitalisation and the new Splendid Park purpose-built sports facilities in Yanchep, which gained the judges nod in the Designing the Outer Suburbs of the Future section.
Through construction and design, the projects reflected an understanding and forward-thinking approach about how the community in coming decades would seek to work and live, according to Mayor Tracey Roberts, who added:
“We are so proud to have been recognised by the NGAA for our efforts in building connections and shaping our developing suburbs into rewarding and comfortable places to live.”
She said that with Perth’s next metropolitan centre in its northern area being earmarked as Yanchep, it took more than just money to start building assets - it also required a strong vision.
The City of Wanneroo also scored ‘gold’ for ‘Creating Value through Growth’ with its project to develop the country’s first ‘smart playground’ undertaken in collaboration with The Playground Centre, Biba, Landcorp and Satterley.
