Revamp works fly into action at Perth Airport

Airport entry points in Perth, Western Australia, are scheduled for a revamp this year.

The internal road system of Perth Airport has also been earmarked for major work as part of the $1 billion Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project.

The state-of-the-art programme, which will include new and upgraded taxiways and terminals, was expected to improve the travel experience for the general public, according to a Gateway WA spokesman.

Virgin’s domestic pier is among a list of projects expected to be completed within the next six months. The international terminal is to receive an upgrade, along with access points to each terminal from Horrie Miller Drive and the Leach Highway.

In an effort to increase take-off times, a new taxiway on the runway’s eastern side will also be established, said the spokesman.

A Leach Highway extension is to be introduced on the airport’s main eastern side access, where it will eventually join up with Horrie Miller Drive and become Airport Drive. These works have a completion date scheduled for mid-2015.

Easing airfield congestion is the main objective of the planned extension of the current taxiway Charlie, which is expected to be operational in four months.

The Gateway WA project’s work schedules are being circulated via flyer printing to residents in affected areas, and full details and media releases are also available on the project’s website.
