Young artists from West Melbourne and throughout Victoria’s major capital city are being asked to use their creativity to put together collages that illustrate their identity and belonging.
The concept is a focus of the City’s winter workshops and was devised in conjunction with Signal and Artful Dodger Studios.
Deborah Kelly, who is
a popular visual artist in Melbourne, will mentor participants towards creating collage art works on a large scale.
Work on the creations begins this month at the Northbank studios of Signal’s.
Chairman of the City’s Arts and Culture portfolio Cr Rohan Leppert said the large art works would later be screened at Federation Square and Signal as well as being exhibited at key locations across Melbourne later in the year.
He said nurturing Melbourne’s creative youth is a major priority which has seen Melbourne become an important creative city.
As such, he said, we are committed to providing mentoring opportunities and the necessary space for young artists to showcase, explore and create their works.
Cr Leppert said the creative arts studio Signal focuses on the 13 to 25 age group and gives them a chance to work with professional artists in an innovative and collaborative way.
Many previous works by the city’s youth have featured on Postcards and exhibition Brochures and Cr Leppert said its opportunities such as the winter workshops that have given many young artists’ works a chance to be seen and enjoyed.
