Turkish-style festival to come to West Melbourne area
For one weekend in April, the Queen Victoria Market near West Melbourne will be transformed into a Turkish street market to celebrate the end of the fasting month, Ramazan.
Cemal Akdeniz OAM, the President of Moreland Turkish Association, has invited everyone to join the association’s family-friendly and free event. He commented:
Visitors will be able to try Turkish street food like gözleme and döner kebab, as well as the famous Turkish coffee and vegetarian and vegan snacks and sweets.
There will be music from the Australian Ottoman Mehter Band on Sunday, dancing and displays of handicrafts and arts, including live demonstrations of ebru (paper marbling).
Visitors will also be able to learn more about the Turkish culture from the stall holders who will be happy to share their stories. There will also be plenty of activities throughout the weekend for children.
