Melbourne City commissioned the work created by Rose Nolan, which is aimed at capturing the imagination of all who visit the precinct.
The artwork is one of many to be commissioned under the Public Art Framework throughout Melbourne, according to Sally Capp, Lord Mayor. She added:
“Rose Nolan’s artwork is a shining example of how effective collaboration with developers, architects, universities and other levels of government can deliver inspiring works that bolster our status as Australia’s cultural capital and drive visitation to our great city.”
Such artworks can prove popular inclusions on tourism brochure printing campaigns that list popular attractions.
A local artist, Nolan is renowned for her vivid and striking artworks, many of which also host a humorous theme. Architectural projects of a large-scale are among her previous works, and she also possesses a strong understanding and interest in the precinct, as well as its history.
Nolan said the significant artwork, which is known as Screen Works and sits upon the multi-level Munro building, presents a verbal-visual puzzle that was exciting to create and reflects a beautiful sense of improvement, changes and perseverance.
The building is set to host hospitality and retail outlets and a boutique hotel. Meanwhile, directly opposite the artwork, a pop-up park is set to be established.
