West Melbourne will be hosting a Mexican themed festival towards the end of next month.
The event is being held to commemorate Mexico’s Day of the Dead, which is about life rather than death. On this day, Mexicans get together with their families to remember and honour their loved ones that have passed away. It is believed that on the Day of the Dead, the spirits of the deceased return to be with their families. To celebrate this day, Mexicans decorate graves with flowers and share food and drinks whilst encouraging the spirits to join them in their festivities.
The Mexican festival will include a variety of entertainment with live musical performances, Day of the Dead Parades, Mariachi bands, dancing, and DJs. For children, there will be face painting and the opportunity to try on costumes. There will also be locals showcasing Mexican and Latin American handicrafts.
An array Mexican food and drink will be available for visitors to sample. For food, all traditional Mexican dishes will be on offer including fajitas, burritos, salsa, guacamole, tamales, and empanadas. A Margarita garden serving five different types of margaritas will also be found on site. Water will be available at these stalls to ensure visitors are properly hydrated.
The event is being promoted via Facebook. To increase awareness, organisers could use flyer printing to promote the event offline and hand out colourful flyer in the local area.
The festival is being held on October 26th and 27th at Flagstaff Gardens.
