West Melbourne, Victoria residents are on the doorstep of a new fortnightly farmers’ market.
The market will complement a vast array of dining outlets that have established Melbourne City’s Goldsbrough Lane as a culinary mecca.
The lane is located near William Street and between Little Bourke and Bourke streets, where fashion retailers, services, restaurants and cafes are dominant.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle welcomed the new Gourmet Farmers’ Market, which will host 30 stalls selling everything from high-end foods to fresh produce.
He said the venue would effectively bring fresh produce and food to residents and city workers’ doorsteps for a truly local shopping experience.
The Lord Mayor said the new markets would carry on the tradition of providing a meeting place for people of all ages, while also allowing them to pick up items such as flowers, honey, fresh pasta, cheese, vegetables and fruit to take home.
The markets, which kick off on July 16th, will be operated by the Rotary Club of Central Melbourne Sunrise every second Thursday, from 4pm to 7pm.
Flyer printing is expected to be a major marketing strategy in alerting locals to the new markets.
The lord mayor explained that the lane was popular with city workers wishing to shop or grab something for lunch and, with the introduction of the markets, it was a prime site for the smoking ban that is currently being considered.
