Creative juices flow as gallery showcases art and music

Art lovers in the suburbs surrounding West Melbourne are only a walk away from the National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) soon-to-open conversation, art and music series.

This captivating presentation ‘Unplugged Live: Portrait of an Artist’ will showcase the individual performers as they celebrate the creative connections between art and music within the 19th and 20th century backdrop of the galleries.

It’s a journey of exploration drawn from wide-ranging themes and human stories, which have inspired the artists to create iconic works in song and on canvas.

NGV Director Tony Ellwood said the event, which was the latest offering in the venue’s evolving music program, was putting the focus on home-grown talent and would complement the gallery’s music series, held on Friday nights in association with the Italian Masterpieces exhibition.

He said it also highlighted Australian music and art, as well as illustrating the gallery’s ability to engage visitors in a number of ways, including live performance on centre stage.

Ten of Australia’s well-established and emerging bands and musicians will be showcased over 10 weeks, in a program to include NGV Curators discussing ideas and themes of works in the Australian Art Collection each Sunday from 2-3pm, July 6th to September 7th. Entry is free.

Brochure printers ensure information on the innovative NGV programs and artworks hung in the gallery is easily accessible to all visitors.
