Bowls club cleans up in championships
The City of Melbourne Bowls Club, located in Flagstaff Gardens in West Melbourne, is celebrating the success of its midweek Metropolitan Pennant teams after its clean sweep in the recent championships. The club won all four of its eligible grand finals.
The club entered two midweek teams, one in each of Divisions 3 and 5, and both took out their Sectional and Divisional grand finals. The Division 3, Section 2 team registered a win over Flemington/Kensington, which it followed up with a 13-point victory over Edithvale to claim the Divisional title.
The Division 5, Section 2 title was taken out in a hard-fought match against Moonee Valley, with the team then claiming victory over Werribee in the Divisional match. The teams will move up a division for the next competition round.
Club Chair Robert Baker commended the success of the club in the championships, saying:
The bowls club, which draws its members from inner city suburbs such as Southbank, Docklands and the CBD, is seeking to grow its membership to expand its presence in the midweek competition. Clubs and other community organisations often turn to flyer printing to raise awareness and promote opportunities within a local neighbourhood.
The Metropolitan Pennant competition is administered by Bowls Victoria and involves five nominated regions in the vicinity of the city of Melbourne. The regular season runs from October to March, with midweek and weekend competitions.
